​Healthy Working Lives provides a range of free* training courses to employers in Scotland to support them in improving the occupational health, safety and well-being of their staff. A healthier workforce really does make for a healthier business.

We have different delivery styles of training available to suit all business needs and we work closely with our partners and customers to review and develop our training.

Our customer feedback also shows that our customers love our training products and would recommend them to other customers, (source: NET Promoter score of 75% of our customers being Promoters in 2018-2019).

​3. Train your own staff - approved trainer

We have set up an Approved Trainer Portal to meet the growing demand from our customers to train their own staff. This type of training offers you the opportunity to use our face-to-face training resources free within your organisation.

Becoming an approved Healthy Working Lives trainer gives you access to a variety of training courses and also gives you the opportunity to be involved in the development of future training courses. It is also an excellent way to network with other organisations.

The current course list includes those below, but, as this is a new exciting area you can expect to see a lot more courses appearing

Each downloadable training course comes with training presentations and trainers workbook, we also provide course evaluation forms for delegates (optional usage, you can use your own).

Criteria for application

The following are essential criteria for anyone applying to become a Healthy Working Lives approved trainer

  • experience of delivering training/teaching effectively
  • good interpersonal and communication skills
  • basic knowledge of health, safety and wellbeing at work
  • enthusiasm to prevent or reduce incidents, accidents and ill health at work
  • an understanding of the benefits of a safe and healthy workforce
  • support from your organisation to deliver the courses in-house.

Expectations and Commitment of Approved Trainers

As a quality assurance measure, all elements of HWL service delivery are part of an ongoing monitored evaluation programme.

Approved trainers will need to be able to support this by delivering at least one HWL course each year and submitting data on numbers of delegates completing the courses to HWL (via our online portal).

Approved trainers are also encouraged to attend periodic half day update sessions and we may ask you to attend a course/networking session, or issue evaluation questionnaires through you to your delegates.

Registering instructions

Terms and conditions

To register, read and agree to a simple terms of use agreement provision (you will find this alongside the registration form). This will outline the terms of the agreement including

  • you record the frequency of the HWL courses you deliver and the number who received the training and feed this information back to HWL
  • you must log at least one course delivery per year to remain on our register (we may remind you to do this)
  • no part of any HWL course can be charged for.

Completing the registration

  • Complete the simple registration form
  • HWL will review the registration and issue a password if the registration is successful
  • Log on to the training pages, download your courses and use them, feedback to us.
